The stores are filled with candied shaped hearts, radiant red roses, and love filled cards. Everything seems set for Cupid to point his arrow.  However, something is missing:  the target. It’s another Valentine’s Day and you are all alone.  This year it is time to make this day one filled with love, instead of one wishing all the happy couples would get hit by a bus.

Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays that is not as inviting as Thanksgiving or Christmas.  We all can participate in both of these holidays; however Valentine’s Day is one that seems to be only for couples. This is why this holiday is called “S.A.D”:

Single Awareness Day.

No one wants to be single on Valentine’s Day, however it happens and the majority of singles will hide to avoid the stigma of being alone on the most loved day of the year.  However, it is important to come out of hiding and show that you are worthy of being loved. Here are some tips for being missed by Cupid’s arrow.

  • Love Yourself:  Take this day to do something for you.  There is no one in the world that knows what you truly love, than yourself.  Just like you would plan a date, plan a day to celebrate you.  Curl up with a good book; go to the spa; or engulf yourself in one of your guilty-pleasures.  Whatever, you do, do it because you love yourself and remind yourself that there is no one like you.  You deserve it.

  • Surround Yourself:  Valentine’s Day is not only meant for couples.  However, it is meant to show your love for others in your lives, whether it be your parents, children, and/or friends.  Take the opportunity to contact your loved ones and let them know that you care about them.

  • Examine Yourself: If you are upset because you are single then take this time to examine the reasons why. By reviewing your character traits and your overall life status, you may find that you are really happy being single.

  • Reinvent Yourself:  Let’s say you examined yourself and found some serious character flaws.  Well, it is nothing like the present to work on making yourself better.  Review things that you can change about yourself that will make you more susceptible to finding love.

  • Engage Yourself: You are not the only single person in the world on Valentine’s Day.  Get with a few of your single friends, single co-workers, and single family members and go out. There is nothing like showing yourself off with other singles. Make yourselves the center of everyone’s attention.  Do it good enough and you will have some couples wishing that they were single.

There is no reason to feel unloved or depressed because you are single on Valentine’s Day.  The most important thing is to know is that you are loved and that you are capable of showing love to others.

“You’re not single. You’re not taken.  You’re simply reserved. For the one that fits the word deserving.
