Dr. William L. Davenport, DDS was born and raised here in the Tidewater area. He attended Chesapeake public schools and graduated from Western Branch in 1969. He received a degree in economics from Williams & Mary, and completed his undergraduate dental education at the Medical College of Virginis at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). At VCU he graduated with high honors and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon honor society in 1977.
After VCU, he furthered his education through the general practice residency in Eglin Air Force Base, after joining the United States Air Force.
After four years of practicing general dentistry, he began his residency in oral
and mixilliofacial surgery at David Brant Medical Center, Trovic Air Force Base in California. He finished his surgical training in 1984, and became board certified in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery in 1986. After a long career in the Air Force where he held many titles, such as: Director of Residency Training and Chairman of the Department of Oral Maxillofacial surgery. He retired as a colonel of nearly 23 years active duty service.
He and his wife, Sue, were married in 1979, and relocated back to Hampton, VA in 1999. In January of 2000, Davenport joined this oral and maxillofacial surgery practice. He is a member of the American Dental Association, VA Dental Association, Peninsula Dental Society, VA Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Society of Air Force Clinical Surgeons, and is a fellow of American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and the National Dental board of Anesthesiology. Davenport also volunteers as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Medical College of Virginia.
