After 17 years of operating franchises like Subway, Chuck Lee knew he wanted to start his own restaurant. Armed with a collection of his own recipes from his preexisting catering business, Lee opened Chuck’s Famous Chicken & Seafood on Magruder Blvd. Lee has found that the key to running a successful business in Hampton Roads is, “…the right employees, excellent customer service, a quality product, and a friendly atmosphere.”

With his daily presence and hands

on approach to running the restaurant, Chuck’s is set to flourish. He recently secured a permit to bottle his Mumbo sauce and he aims to open to more restaurants in Hampton, Suffolk, and Virginia Beach. One day he hopes to sell franchises of the business.

Beyond the restaurant, located on 299 Floyd Thompson Dr. in Hampton, Lee wants to provide a convenience to the area with an array of businesses filling the plaza, which he owns. He’s already leased out spaces to a convenience store, boutique and spa, and wants to attract a cell phone store and another eatery.

Lee’s plans make it clear that he has an entrepreneur’s spirit. His philosophy: “Have a passion for what you want to do. You’ll work hard and won’t feel the pain and struggle it takes to make it successful.”
