The Lemon

Lemons have a tart flavor and a distinct aroma and the beauty of versatility. Lemons are so versatile that they can be used in decadent desserts or marinades for meats not to mention the high citric acid and high alkaline content in a lemon also has its health benefits.

Here are some useful Lemon tips:

Bug Repellent- First squirt lemon juice on door thresholds and windowsills. Squeeze lemon juice into any holes or cracks where ants or other insects are finding their way in. You can also place small slices of lemon peel around the outdoor entrance. Lemons are also effective against roaches and fleas: Simply mix the juice of 4 lemons (along with the rinds) with 1/2 gallon (2 liters) water and wash your floors with it; then watch the fleas and roaches flee. They hate the smell.

Cold & Flu- Lemon and Honey. We recognize this duet when we come down with a flu or cold. Have you ever pondered why? Honey has an anti-inflammatory effect and its strengthens the healing effect of the lemon. Drinking a glass of steeping hot water with the juice of 1 freshly squeezed lemon with 2 tablespoons of  honey assist in fever reduction. Repeat every 2 hours until fever subsides.

Eczema- Lemon and Honey also can assist with eczema. Mix 8 Drops of liquid essential oil, 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 cup of lukewarm water. Place a linen cloth in the mixture and squeeze out excess liquid. Place on effected area for 10-15 minutes 2 to 3 times a day. This will sooth the urge to scratch as well as aid in removal of the infection.

Hard Boiled- Brushing some lemon juice over the shells to prevent them from cracking or drop about a teaspoon in the water and the eggs will be much easier to peel once you’re ready to eat them.

Natural Highlights- Adding 1/4 lemon juice to 3/4 water in a spray bottle and rinse your hair with the mixture and sit under the sun until your hair is dry. You can repeat this process until your hair reaches its desired shade.
